    Politics Swirl Around EPA Regulations

    Senator Lisa Murkowski (R. AK) introduced a disapproval resolution on January 21, 2010, seeking to veto retroactively the Environmental Protection Agency’s finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare, a threshold determination for other pending climate rules.

    Senate Panel Passes Climate Bill Despite GOP Boycott

    The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW) today reported out the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act without amendments and over the objections of committee Republicans. The move, which EPW Chairwoman Barbara Boxer and other panel Democrats set up during two business meetings on the bill earlier this week, was approved 10-1. No Republicans were present for the vote and all Democrats except Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus voted to report it out of committee.

    Senate to Release Draft Climate Change Bill 

    As reported by the New York Times, after significant delays in developing a Senate version of climate change legislation, Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) plan to introduce the official version of their major climate legislation in the Senate today. A preliminary 801-page draft of the bill, tentatively titled The Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act, was released yesterday.

    EPA Finalizes Rules on Greenhouse Gas Reporting

    U.S. EPA yesterday finalized a nationwide system to require large sources of greenhouse gases to report their emissions.     Agriculture Committee to Take Active Role in Drafting of Senate Climate Change Legislation

    Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairwoman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, plans to introduce a climate change bill by September 8, 2009, and it is becoming increasingly apparent that the Senate Agriculture Committee plans to contribute significantly to the debate with regard to the areas under its jurisdiction.
